Not content with being a once-in-a-generation musical talent, Taylor Swift has now set her sights on becoming a novelist too once the dust has settled on her record-breaking Eras tour in December 2024.
According to reports, the star is planning to release her debut novel, which she first wrote at the age of 14. Titled A Girl Called Girl, the story follows a mother who had hoped for a son instead of a daughter, and while it was penned during her teenage years, it has remained under wraps — until now.
Swift secured the trademark rights to the novel, any audio versions of it and any accompanying merchandise in 2015, and it is believed that the original manuscript has been looked after by her parents in the decade since she first wrote it.
The ‘Cruel Summer’ singer admitted during her Speak Now tour in 2012 that she started writing the book after her star began its rapid ascent. ‘All my friends were back in Pennsylvania, so I had nothing to do,’ she told the crowd. ‘I had this epiphany; I’m going to be a novelist and I’m going to write novels. That’s going to be my career path.’
The headline-making, record-breaking and career-defining Eras tour will come to a close in December with stops in Toronto and Vancouver as her legion of fans patiently await the publication of not only her debut novel but the highly-anticipated re-recorded version of her 2017 album Reputation, too.
