Hello long weekends, and endless movies to watch! We know going back to daily 9-5 after the long Eid vacation must have been hard. But here we are embracing another national holiday bringing us a desired long weekend. While some are planning short trips to Sokhna or Sahel, others just wanna recover from corporate life at home, with some fruits or watermelon and some really good light comedy movies. ELLE has picked six Egyptian movies that are gonna make you feel nostalgic and give you some genuine laughs.
ICONIC: AL NAZER
No one would disagree on this. Millennial babies had probably paid tickets several times to watch this unique comedy at the cinema the year it premiered. With its immortal puns that we all relate to, this would be the perfect movie night to spend with your family or friends.
The movie stars the late Alaa Wali El Din, Hassan Hosni, Hesham Selim, Basma, Ahmed Helmy, and Mohamed Saad.
TIMELESS ROM-COM: HOB EL BANAT
Our forever favorite Egyptian rom-com. This iconic movie never gets old, and we never have enough of it. Hob El Banat features the life of freshly reunited three sisters, who you possibly related to at least one of them at some point in your life. Planning a girls movie night? Watching Nada, Ghada, and Ru’aya mess their love lives up seems perfect!
The movie stars Laila Eloui, Hanan Turk, Hana Shiha, Ahmed Ezz, and Ashraf Abdel Baki.
LOVE TRIANGLE: SEHR EL OYOUN
We barely see Nelly Karim doing comedy, but when she does, it’s just WOW. You know when someone’s too desperate for the one they start doing magic? That’s the plot. And if you’re a fan of love triangles, why haven’t you watched this already?
The movie stars Nelly Karim, the late Amer Mounib, and Hala Shiha.
MEDIA LOVERS: EZA’ET HOB

People who grew up to this movie had probably dreamt of being radio announcers at some point in their lives. The light rom-com features adult nerds in love as perfectly as it could get.
The movie stars Menna Shalaby, Sherif Salama, Edward, and Yousra El Lozy.
KING OF SUMMER ROMANCE MOVIES: SANA OULA NASB
Not only is it a nostalgic light rom-com, but a lovely musical as well! Once someone says the movie’s name, Khaled Selim’s songs will automatically start playing in your mind. Had you ever experienced summer romance, this will be one of your absolute favorites!
The movie stars Ahmed Ezz, Khaled Selim, Dalia El Beheri, and Nour.
Usually, when someone asks you to recommend a movie, the suggestions will be some of Hollywood’s classics. We wanted to change the narrative. Because yeah, 10 Things I Hate About You may be the greatest Hollywood rom-com, but Hob El Banat is a timeless Egyptian alternative you should give a chance too!
