The lengths we go to for good skin are endless. From TikTok skin care to homemade recipes, we have seen people do everything for that flawless filter-looking complexion. We spoke to renowned Cairo-based celebrity skincare specialist Amira El Gamal to get the verdict on how to achieve healthy skin.
THE BASICS OF HAVING GOOD SKIN
Protection from the sun comes top on the way to having younger skin for longer. El Gamal says, “That means using SPF religiously, abundantly, and consistently! Seek shade. Go for that hat (extra bonus; you get to be the classic chick by the beach!)”
CLEANSE (BUT DON’T OVERDO IT!)
Step two in being the super complexion girl is cleansing. “Many people would think that means overwashing your face, it actually doesn’t. We need to limit the use of water and soap as much as we can.”
“Double cleansing using; balms, cleansing milk, toners, and oils has taken over the useless and harmful soapy face cleanse. A clean complexion with non-clogged pores is ready to shine and work better with that skincare routine you have going!”
MOISTURIZE, EXERCISE, AND REST THE RING AROUND THE EYES!
“Hydration is one guaranteed way to keep your skin on top of its game. You need to know the right amount of water intake according to your weight and lifestyle.”
Keeping your skin well moisturized means using the right products for you, which doesn’t necessarily mean using expensive ones.
GET FIT, GET HEALTHIER SKIN
Another skincare tip El Gamal swears by is exercise! That’s right, working out can actually give you healthy skin, too. “Exercising is one guaranteed way to have the blood pumping in your skin and have it looking its best due to good circulation. Proof? All those athletes look younger than most of us do!”
SLEEP WELL & RELAX
As basic and obvious as it sounds, your skin won’t look good if you’re not getting that daily dose of sleep that you need. Being well-rested and relaxed is one of the key elements to having healthy, glowing skin! (And looking like you wanna be here.) “Eliminating stress and getting your quality sleep are also mandatory to get that glow lasting longer! Your sleeping time is religious for your whole wellbeing. Make plans to make it happen.”
SCRUB IT OFF
El Gamal says exfoliation is one of her go-to skincare tips, although it might not be what we used to think it was. “A notion that has changed over the years. We don’t need the physical scrubbing particles now to exfoliate dead skin. Just the suitable active ingredient serums that shed the dead skin off effortlessly.”
YOU ARE WHAT YOU EAT
The obvious, what goes in your body is sure to show on your face. “Diet. What goes in, sure does show out. Eat your way up to good skin! Make sure you consume at least one fulfilling mostly green leafy meal.”
“Snack on fruits and cut down processed sugars, and carry your water bottle around. All the celebrities do it, so why wouldn’t you?!
HANDS OFF!
Last but most certainly not least, a mistake we all make is going for our faces through-out the day. This can lead to heavy break-outs and irritation. “Keep your hands away from your face! Unless they are super clean and just washed, then massage your face regularly and Gua-sha that pretty face up!”
