At the Grand Egyptian Museum, in the midst of Egypt’s rich history, nested between the pyramids, is RiseUp Summit. A meeting point for business, art, and technology, the summit offers perfect opportunities for students and investors alike to find the connections they want.
ELLE was on-ground all weekend at RiseUp getting the inside scoop from some of our favorite speakers at the summit. With paralleling talks on all 3 stages: Capital Stage, Creative Stage, and Tech Stage, the summit was rich with inspiring pioneers.
In speaking with Fiz Olajide, Director of Design at X (formerly Twitter,) she shared with us the secret she believes a lot of people miss, “The advice that I would give to an aspiring storyteller is to use the tools you have right now to tell a story. A lot of the time, people may not have the right camera or the right equipment and feel like that’s a barrier to telling a story. But as long as you have a phone that has a camera, you can start telling stories today.”
Aly Mazhar, the founder of BeFit360, shared what he believes is the key to building a successful business in sports, “Focus on the core of what you provide. You need to concentrate your efforts on one or two services that you’re really good at, and that you really feel will give you a sense of uniqueness. Do not copy someone else’s work, if you try to do something that someone else is better than you at, you will always be chasing them and this can very easily result in demotivation.”
We spoke to Jordanian singer and composer Aziz Maraka on the importance of nurturing the creative process, “You have to be in touch with what you’re really feeling and try to put it into words. It comes together like a puzzle.” He told us.
Dina Ghabbour, host of The W Podcast, shares her key tips for breaking through the media industry. “Consistency is key, and the content you’re making. You really have to ask yourself why you’re doing this. Is it fame? Or do you actually have a message you want to convey?”
Fatma Ghaly, CEO of Azza Fahmy, shared “RiseUp Summit really contributes to the growth of startups and businesses because it’s really important to have an ecosystem, it’s really important to connect with likeminded individuals. These people come together to inspire each other and to feel supported.”
