Sunday, August 11th- Today officially marks the conclusion of the Paris 2024 Olympics. The highly anticipated event kicked off in the French capital on July 26th. This round of the Olympics witnessed the largest number of participants from the Egyptian Olympic mission, with 164 male and female players participating in 22 sports, according to the Egyptian Olympic Committee’s earlier announcement.

Egypt won a total of three Olympic medals at the 2024 Paris Olympics. Fencing player Mohamed El-Sayed won the bronze medal, Weightlifting champion Sara Samir won the silver medal, and Ahmed El-Gendy won the gold medal last Saturday evening in the modern pentathlon.

Ahmed El-Gendy had previously won the silver medal at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, and Sara Samir had previously won the bronze medal at the Rio de Janeiro 2016 Olympics.

As for the team games, the Egyptian Olympic football team managed to reach the semi-finals of the Paris Olympics, and was defeated by its French counterpart by three goals to one. The Egyptian team settled in fourth place after losing to Morocco 6-0 in the match to determine third and fourth place.

The handball team bid farewell to the Olympic Games after losing to Spain 29-28 in the quarter-finals of the Paris 2024 Olympics.

Following El Gendy’s gold medal, Egypt has officially topped the Arab world’s ranking of Olympic medals throughout history. Surpassing Algeria, Egypt now possesses 9 gold medals, 12 silver medals, and 20 bronze medals.
