With collaboration from Pharrell Williams, Creative Director for Men, and Nicolas Ghesquière, Artistic Director of the Women’s Collections, Louis Vuitton proudly presents two new iterations of its famous Bed Trunk.
The Bed Trunk, designed for discerning travelers and design aficionados, honors the Maison’s 1854 workmanship and traditions while symbolizing the brand’s continuous dedication to innovation. The Bed Trunk was created in 1868 by Louis Vuitton’s son, Georges, as a tool for explorers. It was patented in 1885 and became well-known among travelers, adventurers, and nomads. The military edition also proved vital for officers participating in wars and maneuvers.
The iconic Bed Trunk, with its inside beechwood and aluminum folding bed frame and the iconic Monogram canvas, was resurrected by Louis Vuitton in April. With ease, this bed expands into a sturdy base that accommodates a four-part mattress for optimal comfort. A memory foam mattress covers the sections, which are arranged over woven cotton straps, a classic Louis Vuitton trunk feature used to protect personal items while traveling.
A beechwood bedside table may be fastened to the frame of the bed and the headrest can be tilted for greater convenience. The artistic directors of the Maison have now created two modern interpretations of the Bed Trunk.
BED TRUNK X NICOLAS GHESQUIÈRE
The Bed Trunk is interpreted in a futuristic manner by Nicolas Ghesquière. This unique model, which takes inspiration from his past designs, features modernized corner pieces and etched metal plates that evoke the feel of a dystopian future era.
Although the trunk’s exterior is reminiscent of the Cruise 2023 collection, its interior has a romantic touch with a mattress patterned with flowers that is reminiscent of the Spring/Summer 2018 collection. This adds an unexpected softness to the trunk’s design.
BED TRUNK X PHARRELL WILLIAMS
Pharrell Williams offers a novel viewpoint with a distinctive twist, drawing inspiration from old Bed Trunks. His design combines red and white stripes on the inside with distressed striped patterns on the outside that are evocative of the 1872 canvas.
LV Lovers embroidery can be found on the jacquard mattress and cushion, and the black aluminum hardware contrasts sharply with the blond wood. Williams has created a unique collector’s treasure by fusing modern style with vintage grandeur.
In honor of Nicolas Ghesquière’s tenth anniversary with the Maison, the Bed Trunk will be on display at the Louis Vuitton store in Saint-Germain-des-Prés from September 20 to October 6.
From September 21 to October 4, Pharrell Williams’ Bed Trunk will be on display at the Hôtel Cheval Blanc in Paris at the Hôtel Savoir Rêver Louis Vuitton event.
