How To Maintain A Fringe During Summer

When humidity and heat strike, your bangs don’t have to be the first casualty

If you’ve ever stepped outside in July with a fresh fringe, you know the drama that follows. Sweat, frizz, and sticky strands clinging to your forehead? Not exactly the look you were going for. But that doesn’t mean you need to grow your bangs out come June. With the right tricks (and the right products), you can keep your fringe looking effortlessly cool—even when the temperature is anything but. Here’s how to summer-proof your bangs, whether you’re rocking curtain, micro, or full-on blunt styles.

START WITH THE RIGHT CUT

Not all fringes are created equal—especially in the summer. If you’re planning to get bangs or update your current look, ask your stylist for a style that works with your natural texture and is easy to style. A wispy or curtain fringe tends to be more forgiving in humid weather than a blunt, thick cut. Bonus: these styles are easier to push aside when you need to get them off your face.

EMBRACE DRY SHAMPOO AS YOUR BANG BFF

Your fringe gets oily faster than the rest of your hair since it sits on your forehead and picks up natural oils from your skin. Keep a travel-size dry shampoo in your bag to refresh your bangs throughout the day. Spritz, tousle, and you’re back to breezy.

BLOW DRY STRAIGHT AWAY

Resist the urge to air dry. The key to sleek, frizz-free bangs is blow-drying them immediately after washing. Use a small round brush or a flat paddle brush to direct your fringe downward (or slightly parted, depending on your style), and finish with a cool blast to set it in place.

DON’T SKIP THE STYLING PRODUCTS

A lightweight anti-frizz cream or serum can make all the difference. Apply a tiny amount to your fringe before blow-drying, and finish with a humidity-resistant hairspray to lock everything in place. Avoid anything too heavy or oily—your bangs should move, not melt.

CLIP IT, SWEEP IT, OR TWIST IT WHEN NEEDED

Some days, your bangs just won’t behave. On those high-humidity or super-sweaty days, lean into hair accessories. Use bobby pins to sweep your fringe to the side, try a chic hair clip or mini claw, or twist and pin your bangs back into a summer-friendly updo. A silk headband can also double as a stylish sweat barrier.

NIGHTTIME BANG CARE IS A THING

Yes, even your fringe deserves a nighttime routine. If you’re prone to oil or sweat overnight, sleep with a silk or satin pillowcase to reduce friction and keep your bangs smoother. In the morning, refresh with dry shampoo and a quick touch-up blow dry if needed.

CONSIDER A MID-SUMMER TRIM

Fringes grow fast—and summer heat makes them feel even longer. Schedule a trim every 3-4 weeks to keep your bangs at the perfect length and shape. It’s a small step that makes a major difference in how manageable they feel.
