Finding Ola 2 premiere beautifully picks up where we left off; Ola is still fantasizing about the one (aka Dr. Marwan- the hot dad at her kids’ school).
As she embarks on her mission to find love—and ultimately herself—while maintaining a stable life as a single mom, here’s an ELLE editors’ review of the first episode of the Netflix hit series Finding Ola 2.
The episode balances humor and heartfelt moments as Ola navigates her evolving relationship with Dr. Marwan and her small business challenges. The writing is sharp, and the performances shine, particularly Hend Sabri’s nuanced portrayal of Ola, the single mom striving to get by. While presenting a new character to a late season of any series might be a great challenge, The great director Hadi Al Bagouri has proven otherwise with the smooth introduction of Karim Abed (Ola’s new love interest), played by Tunisian actor Dhafer L’Abdine.
However, it seems that Ola has barely learned from her past experiences. She often rushes into things, lacking the patience to hold herself together. True to form, she prematurely pushes for romance with Dr. Marwan, who she barely knows, inadvertently giving him reasons to pull away.
While Finding Ola is categorized as a comedy, it has tackled serious societal issues since its inception. Initially, it addressed the societal perspective on unmarried women approaching their thirties with a touch of sarcasm. In this season, we find ourselves relating to the frustrating and overwhelming challenges that Ola faces with the other moms at school. Zeina, Dr. Marwan’s daughter, embodies the endless parade of influencers dominating our Instagram feeds and TikTok’s fyp. While her role may seem minor, it raises an important question: when did influencing become our job and our lives?
Finding Ola 2 is a powerful exploration of family, love, and the unyielding strength it takes to face life’s unpredictable blessings-in-disguise.
