Thursday, 23rd May, 2024: Lebanese rock band Adonis and singer/actress Maritta just dropped an unexpected collaboration, “Hafdal Aghanni” (Keep On Singing), an upbeat, hip-hop infused track that seamlessly alternates between Egyptian and Lebanese dialects.
A first taste of Adonis’ upcoming album, slated for release summer 2024, the song was arranged by up-and-coming Jordanian producer Amr Shomali, and written and composed by the band’s frontman Anthony Adonis, who notes: “I was always drawn to Maritta’s whimsical, effortless vocals. Getting the chance to explore new musical ideas and aesthetics with her through this project was such a thrill.”
The music video, directed by Adonis’ long-time collaborator Eli Salameh, is reminiscent of 1990s crime films. Clad in trench coats and leather jackets, Maritta and the band members chase each other across Parisian streets and underground subway stations.
Maritta states: “I have always been fond of Adonis’ music. Singing their lyrics for the first time was pure magic, and I feel that the natural chemistry between us, both in the studio and on set, translates beautifully into the song.”
While Adonis have recently announced various summer shows across the Middle East and Europe, Maritta is currently filming an upcoming television show, and recording, in parallel, a series of singles, to be released later this year.
