For decades Elton John, one of the most celebrated musicians ever and his partner David Furnish have been building a world class collection of photography. After touring the world, 300 works of about 7000 can now be discovered and admired at London’s V&A’ museum, making it the largest photography exhibition the trailblazing museum has ever hosted.
Iconic images by some of the most important names in photography including Richard Avedon, Mario Testino, Juergen Teller and William Egglestone are grouped into themes such as fashion, desire or celebrities. The latter a collection of famous images of Ray Charles, Frank Sinatra, Marilyn Monroe to mention a few, while iconic fashion images and portraits of golden era stars and divas reflect the superstars passion for fashion.
The works that span from the 1950’s to today represent more than just an exhibition of modern and contemporary photography but the British singer’s life journey and hence a must see for fans of Sir Elton John, who himself makes a cheeky appearance in a portrait by David LaChapelle, in a cafe with eggs on his face, toast sliced neatly in two on his plate.
The exhibition runs through till January 5th, 2025 at the V&A South Kensington, London.
