Nails are not just a canvas for your favorite nail polish! They are a reflection of your overall health. Strong, healthy nails not only look beautiful but also indicate good internal health. However, achieving and maintaining healthy nails requires more than just occasional manicures. It demands a consistent routine that includes proper care, nutrition, and protection. In this article, we’ll delve into the best routine for healthy nails, covering everything from nail care habits to dietary considerations.

HYDRATE & MOISTURIZE

Clean nails first! Regularly wash your hands and nails with a gentle non-drying cleanser.  Hydration is key to healthy nails. Apply a moisturizing hand cream or nail oil daily to keep your nails and cuticles hydrated, preventing them from becoming dry and brittle.

TRIM TRIM TRIM

Trim your nails regularly to prevent them from becoming too long and prone to breakage. Use a nail clipper or nail scissors to trim them straight across, then round the tips in a gentle curve. Avoid cutting your cuticles, as they act as a barrier to protect your nails from infection. Instead, gently push them back after showering when they’re soft.

WEAR GLOVES WHEN WASHING THE DISHES

Dish soap is really harsh on both hands and nails, daily exposure to these types of chemicals can dry your hands out and weaken your nails. Also, can you please stop using your nails as tools for tasks? Like opening cans or scraping off stickers? This is really bad and will eventually weaken your nails and break them.

INVEST IN GOOD NAIL PRODUCTS

Don’t buy any nail polish remover just because it’s cheap. Invest in ones that are acetone-free to prevent drying out your nails. Opt for nail polishes that are free of harmful chemicals which can weaken and damage nails over time.

NOURISH YOUR NAILS FROM WITHIN

A balanced diet rich in vitamins and minerals is essential for healthy nails. Incorporate foods high in biotin (such as eggs, nuts, and salmon), vitamin E (such as spinach, almonds, and avocados), and omega-3 fatty acids (such as flaxseeds, walnuts, and oily fish) into your diet. And if you’re not a “ fitness is my passion” person, consider taking a biotin supplement.

NO BITING

Please stop biting your nails or picking at your cuticles, this can cause mass damage and infections, and it’s gross. Also, acrylics and hard gel are really, really bad.

LET YOUR NAILS BREATHE

From time to time,  give your nails a break from polish and let them breathe. This allows them to regain strength and prevents discoloration. Also, using a nourishing nail treatment during these breaks can be very beneficial.
