Day four of New York Fashion Week showcased a dynamic mix of creativity and bold design. AKNVAS delivered strong silhouettes with rich textures, while Dennis Basso celebrated femininity with vibrant hues and elegant tailoring.
Lafayette 148 blended art and fashion through expressive prints and intricate knits, and Tory Burch combined sporty influences with playful, luxurious details. The day highlighted diverse approaches to modern fashion, balancing sophistication and fun.
AKNVAS
Christian Juul Nielsen’s AKNVAS Spring/Summer 2025 collection at New York Fashion Week is influenced by his ongoing emphasis on strong silhouettes and dramatic use of color and texture.
Though Nielsen hasn’t disclosed the exact source of inspiration for the SS25 collection just yet, stories and the whimsical stories of Danish author Hans Christian Andersen have served as inspiration for Nielsen’s earlier work, including the SS24 collection.
Distinguished for his ability to blend modern design with his Scandinavian heritage, Nielsen frequently highlights elegant tailoring with surprising fun touches, implying that the SS25 collection may continue in this creative and eclectic vein.
CAROLINA HERRERA
Wes Gordon showcased his role as a fashion leader with Carolina Herrera’s SS25 collection at Liberty Place. The collection featured a refined color palette of just six hues, including black-and-white, lipstick red, pink, taxicab yellow, and a new delphinium blue.
Inspired by the 1997 Carolina Herrera fragrance’s packaging, Gordon’s designs celebrated graphic glamour and flower power.
Highlights included dramatic silhouettes, like high-waisted shorts and a crisp white shirt, and bold, handmade silk flowers, alongside effortless daywear and standout evening pieces like a polka dot ballgown and a bouquet-inspired dress.
Gordon’s latest collection is a testament to his evolving, confident approach to fashion.
DENNIS BASSO
The Spring/Summer 2025 collection by Dennis Basso, which was shown at New York Fashion Week, pays homage to femininity in all ages. The collection, which features vivid hues like Lime Crème and Orangeade, honors the “age of possibility” with an emphasis on adaptability and elegance.
Recognized for his opulent application of textiles, Basso created designs for ladies of all ages that featured pleated dresses, silk chiffon gowns, and hand-stitched embellishments.
The line pays homage to Basso’s New York City heritage in style and craftsmanship while striking a balance between youthful vigor and mature refinement.
LAFAYETTE 148
For SS25, Lafayette 148’s Creative Director Emily Smith drew inspiration from the artist’s studio, reflecting the creative process in her collection. Capturing the essence of figure drawing and charcoal sketches, the designs featured fringed accents and curvilinear jacquard patterns.
Prints mimicking artist smudges adorned suits and trench coats, while hand-knitted “flaps” on dresses echoed the organized chaos of a studio. The color palette, with tones like chalk yellow and slate blue, mirrored the calm of an artist’s workspace.
Smith’s collection seamlessly blended art with fashion, translating drawing nuances into sophisticated, wearable pieces.
TORY BURCH
Tory Burch’s SS25 collection captures “the synchronicity of movement and form,” drawing inspiration from the essence of sport, power, grace, precision, and freedom. Martial arts influences appear in belts and ties, while color-blocked sweaters evoke jerseys. The collection blends sporty and luxurious fabrics, from quilted cotton and stretch wool to hand-twisted sequins and featherweight suede.
Whimsical accessories, like cartoonish alien earrings, add a playful touch, while modernized ballet slipper-inspired footwear explores the balance of sport and elegance.
Stay tuned for day five of NYFW.
