Bingeable ‘One Day’ Series That Had Us All Clutching Our Hearts

ELLE picks some bingeable TV shows for those days you want to curl up in bed

The main characters from the Netflix series 'One Day'

For the days you want to curl up in bed with a good TV show (and an even better cry,) we’ve compiled a list of series you can watch in only a day.

ONE DAY

Yes, the same One Day (2011) that starred Anne Hathaway and Jim Sturgess. Based on the global best-selling novel by author David Nicholls. Netflix just had to wreck our hearts to pieces again by turning it into a series.

Emma and Dex meet on the night of their graduation from college and the fates tie them together. We watch as their story unfolds on the same day over 20 years.

FLEABAG

Phoebe Waller-Bridge‘s BAFTA-winning comedy Fleabag has become somewhat of a modern classic. Who doesn’t love an unlikable female lead? No one does it better than Waller-Bridge.

Waller-Bridge uses breaking the fourth wall as the main storytelling tool, reeling the viewers into the plot. The main character, Fleabag, owns a small cafe with her best friend Boo. Over the course of the plot, we see Fleabag flailing her way through her relationships with her family, her romantic partners, and herself.

NORMAL PEOPLE

The Sally Rooney adaptation that took the internet by storm. Both the book and the TV series quickly found their way into the audience’s hearts.

Marianne and Connel go to school together, and get involved with each other but keep it a secret. We follow as their relationship keeps missing all the right timings. They go off to college, and each ends up in a situation of their own, but they keep finding their way back to each other. It’s a story about that person that you just can’t shake. In every room Marianne and Connel are in, he’s looking for her, and she’s looking for him. Normal People is a beautiful account of the interpersonal relationships we all spend our lives looking for.

EVERYTHING I KNOW ABOUT LOVE

Adapted from Dolly Alderton’s best-selling memoir Everything I Know About Love, the show follows Maggie (Dolly in the book) through different stages of her life as she figures love out. Trial and error is her method of testing, and error is most often the result.

Everything I Know About Love is an ode to love, friendship, and, above all else, girlhood.
