It’s Chemena Kamali’s debut show as creative director for Chloé with the fall/winter 2024 collection, paying homage to Egypt-born Gaby Aghion. However, it was not actually her first show for the house, breathing its vibes like nobody else. With a strong signature of fluid flowing and real-life dressing, the floating looks took over the stage. As light as inhaling and exhaling, Kamali liberates her vision of the Chloé women and adds all the free spirit of the ’70s. It’s that female gaze that distills the dressing to what women actually need.
THE CHLOÉ VISION
Kamali carries the torch of founder Gaby Aghion (born in Alexandria, Egypt) with a shared passion for bohemian aesthetics. Kamali intends to embrace and capture the essence of the Chloé woman, with all the contradictions she embodies, defining the house’s attitude. She honors the forward-thinking spirit that Gaby Aghion pioneered when she founded the house over 70 years ago. A vision to liberate women and empower them to be daring and feel free.
BRINGING BACK BOHO
Sheer, cascading dresses breathe life into rooms, layering as statement pieces. Over-the-knee boots, the shoe of the season, complete the feminine vibe. The nameplate belts shout ‘Chloé’ as loudly as Aghion once intended for the young, bohemian crowd. “I want to feel her presence again,” Kamali says. “Her beat, her natural beauty, her sense of freedom and undone-ness. The glow, the radiance, and the energy of that girl. She is real. She is herself. For me, dressing is a part of self-discovery: how we evolve as women in different stages of our life; how we continue to define and embrace who we are.”
