If March means Madness for basketball, then May means Met for fashion. Every fashion enthusiast’s favorite day of May is fast approaching once again. The world’s most celebrated red carpet, lying in the heart of New York City and walls of The Metropolitan Museum of Art, is set to take place this year on May 6th for another night where creativity gets to roam free and wild.

With this year’s theme, The Garden of Time, set to explore flowers and their symbolism of beauty, innocence, and youth, as told by J.G. Ballard’s 1962 short story, we can’t forget last year’s opulent night of structured fabrics and black-and-white expressions; Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty. A-list guests were asked to come bearing the very essence of the late designer Karl Lagerfeld, both the exhibition and celebrities honoring his legacy within the fashion realm.

From weaving tweed to weaving his way to the forefront of the fashion industry whilst giving his creative genius to the likes of his name-sake, Fendi, and most reputably his signature Chanel looks, that revolutionized Haute Couture and Ready-To-Wear, the aura of the late Karl Lagerfeld was very much present across the steps and halls of The Metropolitan Museum of Art. Let’s take a look back at some of the most alluring looks of that evening:

KIM KARDASHIAN

Drenched in 50,000 freshwater pearls, Kim Kardashian stunned in Maison Schiaparelli. The synched crystal-like dress was an ode to her 2007 Playboy shoot that wrote “Karl who? This year’s theme is actually ‘Kim: A Lexicon of Fashion!”

EDDIE REDMAYNE

Redmayne worked with Alexander McQueen to produce a double-breasted blazer that plays on Lagerfeld’s famous brooch and chain combination of which he would always adorn his own blazers with.

DUA LIPA

The singer, as well as co-chair for the night, Dua Lipa graced the steps of The Met in a Chanel black and white tweed ball-gown, formerly worn by Claudia Schiffer for their 1992 couture collection, truly emulating Lagerfeld’s legacy.

NICOLE KIDMAN

Besides giving us an ethereal gown, the actress gave us a story. Not only did Kidman represent Lagerfeld in a vintage Chanel couture gown, she wore the same show stopper that dazzled the screens of many before in her 2004 Chanel No. 5 fragrance advert.

BAD BUNNY

When most think of Karl Lagerfeld their minds automatically drift to Chanel. When you think of Chanel you visualize its renown white Camellia’s. The Puerto Rican singer and rapper walked the carpet in custom Jacquemus doused in Camellia’s.

MICHELLE YEOH

What better way to honor Lagerfeld than representing him in his eponymous designs. Yeoh charmed the steps with a Karl Lagerfeld ensemble that embodies the designer’s very own style. The black tailored pants paired with the exaggerated version of Lagerfeld’s classic white-collard shirt has all the components to catch the viewer’s eye.

GIGI HADID

Reminiscent of Lagerfeld’s time at Fendi and his Spring 2000 Ready-To-Wear collection and its reoccurring use of chiffon, the model stopped each camera’s flash in its tracks with a sheer black Givenchy dress.

BEN PLATT

The Dear Evan Hansen actor personified Lagerfeld’s iconic creative discipline when it came to the infamous tweed suits. The look also gave a subtle nod to the Chanel Spring Summer 1992 Haute Couture collection, which saw the prominent use of gold chains.

TEYANA TAYLOR

Taylor pleasantly shocked the audience with a head-to-toe resemblance to Lagerfeld’s unique style, including the tie, sunglasses and hair style. The singer and actress collaborated with Thom Browne to successfully combine the mirroring of the designers’ style with his skill in producing the perfectly constructed tweed blazer and skirt ensembles.

NICK JONAS

Dappered up in Valentino, Jonas, much like Teyana Taylor, paid homage to Lagerfeld by sporting a black leather jacket and white shirt, paired with Lagerfeld’s choices of a heeled black boot and brooches that always complete his recognizable style.
