Wake up fashion enthusiasts, appreciators, and lovers, New York Fashion Week is upon us once more! The year’s most fulfilling month has come back to grace us with all new Spring/Summer 2025 collections, preparing us for a new wardrobe of wonders and anticipation.
Day one of NYFW saw the most intricate deconstructed construction, mixed with the most ethereal of skirts and the highest caliber of material manipulation. Here are some of our favorites from the runways of New York Fashion Week:
ALAÏA
At New York Fashion Week, Alaïa’s Spring/Summer 2025 show was a riveting event that combined the brand’s characteristic sculptural designs with a blend of contemporary urban influences. The Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum served as a dramatic architectural backdrop for the collection’s exhibition, echoing the structured and body-conscious designs for which Alaïa is known.
Bold textures like leather and precise tailoring that emphasized strength and sensuality seemed to be a continuation of Alaïa’s dedication to strengthening femininity, which served as a major inspiration.
AREA
Area commemorated the brand’s tenth anniversary with a show at NYFW that focused on individuality, innovation, and self-expression for Spring/Summer 2025. The collection used striking symbols like hands and thumbprints to explore these ideas; these symbols stand for uniqueness and personal preference.
In a socially conscious partnership with Tinder, Area incorporated hand motifs. The red handprints were an homage to Planned Parenthood’s Bans Off Our Bodies campaign.
By fusing campaigning with fashion, Area demonstrated dedication to social causes and creativity, highlighting the value of personal style and autonomy.
BRANDON MAXWELL
Refined simplicity served as the inspiration for Brandon Maxwell’s Spring/Summer 2025 collection at NYFW, which placed a major emphasis on usefulness and adaptability. Sensuality and ease were combined in the show’s body-conscious ribbed knits, sheer neoprene fitted pantsuits and diaphanous skirts.
Important pieces were dresses with chiffon fringe, caped knit polo shirts, and breezy poplin shirts that could easily go from one situation in a woman’s life to another.
The collection’s standout pieces included low-slung, embroidered miniskirts and backless slip dresses that combined comfortable fit with sensual lines.
CHRISTIAN SIRIANO
Christian Siriano’s Spring/Summer 2025 collection transports viewers into a dark fantasy world inspired by Grimm’s Fairy Tales. With a touch of eerie enchantment, the collection features dramatic and imaginative designs. Jessica Stam set the tone by opening the show, perfectly embodying the blend of high fashion and dark fantasy.
HERVÉ LÉGER
Michelle Ochs at Hervé Léger embraced a spirit of wanderlust this season, inspired by her upcoming travel plans. Her SS25 collection combines a sense of wanderlust with versatile, travel-ready pieces. Notable are the signature bandage strips, which twist into peekaboo cutouts, and the layering of curved panels under straight lines, creating a playful optical illusion.
PROENZA SCHOULER
The Spring/Summer 2025 collection by Proenza Schouler at New York Fashion Week was inspired by a fusion of modern and nostalgic motifs. The program had a nautical theme with a back-to-school vibe.
Designers Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez added colorful details, including fringed dresses, asymmetrically draped skirts, and oversized shirts, to their minimalist look. The designs have a nautical flair thanks to the strong use of stripes, which are frequently connected to the French Navy.
The designs were heavily influenced by artistic inspirations as well. American artist Barnett Newman’s work, particularly the striped and grid patterns on fitted pieces, had a big impact. With a whimsical luxury touch, the collection embraced ease of wearability and versatility, making it perfect for urban wear.
RALPH LAUREN
New York Fashion Week kicked off with a CFDA ribbon-cutting at Rockefeller Center on September 6, but Ralph Lauren stole the spotlight early. On September 5, he held a high-profile fashion show in the Hamptons with a star-studded guest list.
For over 50 years, Ralph Lauren has cherished family time in the Hamptons, a place he describes as “endless blue skies, ocean, green fields, and white fences—a blend of rustic charm and elegance with light that has long inspired artists.” This natural beauty and effortless charm shape his Spring 2025 vision of coastal elegance and timeless American style.
WILLY CHAVARRIA
Willy Chavarria took inspiration from workwear including retail uniforms and pants worn by farm laborers for his SS25 show at NYFW, which celebrated the achievements of immigrant workers in America.
The collection, which focused on social justice and dignity, honored the tenacity of individuals who constructed the nation and was held in New York’s Financial District. There were partnerships with Adidas during the event, and Yahritza y Su Esencia performed.
Stay tuned for day two of NYFW.
