A film that perfectly encapsulates the phrase "right person, wrong time," with stellar direction

Aya Samaha and Ahmed Malek in 6 Days

On Tuesday, January 14th, the cast of “6 Days” celebrated the film’s premiere at a theater in 6th of October City. The premiere was crowded by many prominent figures from the art scene, who came to celebrate the stars, Ahmed Malek and Aya Samaha.

6 Days is a heartfelt romantic film, driven by young, talented stars. Directed by Karim Shaaban, the story unfolds over several years, showcasing how love brings together, and life pulls apart, Youssef (Ahmed Malek) and Alia (Aya Samaha).

Where do we even begin? 6 Days is simply beautiful, packed with raw emotions. It’s one of those movies that feels incredibly uplifting, yet manages to leave you with a deep, aching sadness. One of the key themes of the film that is delivered perfectly is the idea of “right person, wrong time.” Alia (Aya Samaha) and Youssef (Ahmed Malek) have always been in love, but it’s as if the universe is constantly plotting against them. Over the span of six years, they make a pact to meet once every year on December 19th, each time hoping that this time will be the one where everything falls into place. But life always seems to have other plans.

One of the aspects we can’t help but rave about is the impeccable music choice throughout the film. The soundtrack plays a significant role in making 6 Days resonate with us on a deeper level. Every song fits so perfectly with the narrative, enhancing the emotional weight of the story in a way that is almost poetic.

The chemistry between Aya Samaha and Ahmed Malek is simply unmatched. Yes, we all loved their charm in the WE ad last Ramadan, but after their incredible performances in 6 Days, it’s safe to say that this is the on-screen duo we never knew we needed so much.

Ahmed Malek is no stranger to romantic roles—who could forget his portrayal of Adam in La Totfe’ Al Shams? However, his take on Youssef is something special. He manages to capture every ounce of confusion, vulnerability, and heartache that comes with being in love but not being able to make it work. Every viewer who has ever faced uncertainty in a relationship or been blindsided by the harsh truths of life will find themselves relating to Youssef on a personal level.

As for Alia, she’s the embodiment of the woman who refuses to give up on love—the one who believes in second chances and is willing to fight for a relationship, no matter the cost. Aya Samaha owns this role, and it’s clear that we need to see more of her in such powerful, nuanced characters.

6 Days is a beautiful film about two people who have always wanted to be together, but just couldn’t. It’s a story that mirrors the experiences of so many people who’ve had to let go of a love that they wished would have lasted longer. And while it’s a story that we know all too well—the kind where life just seems to pull you away from the one person you feel you’re meant to be with—when it happens and there’s nothing you can do about it, the pain hits harder than words can describe. Life is cruel in its unpredictability; it leads us down paths we never wanted, separates us from those we thought we’d never have to live without. But as harsh as life can be, sometimes we’re surprised by the beauty that lies ahead—just like what happens with Youssef and Alia later in the movie… Is this considered a spoiler? Oops.
